Educational Program Staff & Management Team

We respect the teaching staff, children and families and the many ways in which they learn. We believe in working together as co-constructors of knowledge, keeping communication open to create the best possible program for our children.

Executive Director Rosemary Totten is a graduate of Central Washington University with a major in Sociology and has 31 years experience in the field of early childhood education.

Teachers at Tacoma Day are required to have training in early childhood education. This training is obtained through the following:

  1. A degree through an accredited two– or four-year college,
  2. A certificate through a one– or two-year accredited technical college program,
  3. Child Development Assistant (CDA) through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Office Coordinator provides support to the executive director, teachers, and parents.

Cook works with the child-adult care nutrition guidelines to provide healthy, appealing meals to children and staff.

Management: Tacoma Day is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of teachers, attorneys, private business owners and professional people from all walks of life. Our Trustees volunteer their time and talents working with our Executive Director to ensure that our facility continues to operate with the highest of standards.

Sources of Income:

  • Allocation from United Way. (Tacoma Day has been a member agency since 1939.)
